Building Engineering Consultants Association

The word "engineering" is derived from the Latin "ingenium", meaning something like brilliant idea, flash of genius. It was created in the 16th century and originally described a profession that we would probably call an artistic inventor. Engineers apply the knowledge of the mathematical and natural sciences (biological and physical), with judgment and creativity to develop ways to utilize the materials and forces of nature for the benefit of mankind. The subjects are diverse and include names like civil engineering, plumbing engineering, electrical and electronics engineering, mechanical engineering, building engineering etc.

Building Engineering Practice:

Building Engineering is the application of engineering principles and technology to building design and construction. However, Building Engineering comprises the following professionals :

Consultant :A person who provides specialist advice and / or professional service.

Contractor : A person who provides building and construction works and services, and includes subcontractors and suppliers.

Client : Any project owner, project manager, or initiator, inviting or receiving proposals or tenders.

Structural: Structural engineering involves the analysis and design of physical objects such as buildings, bridges, equipment supports, towers and walls. Those concentrating on buildings are responsible for the structural performance of a large part of the built environment and are, sometimes, informally referred to as "building engineers". Architectural Engineers sometimes practice structural as one aspect of their designs; the structural discipline when practiced as a specialty works closely with architects and other engineering specialists.

Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) mechanical and electrical engineers are specialists, commonly referred to as "MEP" (mechanical, electrical and plumbing) when engaged in the building design fields. Also known as "Building services engineering" in the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia. Mechanical engineers design and oversee the heating ventilation  air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC&R) as well as mechanical systems. Plumbing designers often include design specifications for simple active fire protection systems, but for more complicated projects, fire protection engineers are often separately retained. Electrical engineers are responsible for the building's power distribution, telecommunication, fire alarm, signalization, lightning protection and control systems, as well as lighting systems.

Building Engineering Consultants Association (BECA)

BECA, the Building Engineering Consultants Association is a non-profit international association for the engineering consultants and professional engineers in Construction and MEP fields. BECA has been found by a Building Engineering Consultants Group. The BECA members include professors, experts and professional engineers.

BECA goals are to promote the co-operation between the professionals in various fields of the building engineering and to cultivate an environment for the advance and development of the technology. Our objective includes:

  • Promoting the interactions between the professors, experts and professional engineers.
  • Advancing the application of engineering techniques from the academics to the industry;
  • Facilitating the exchange of information and ideas among the building engineering profession freely.

BECA Membership

BECA welcome all the engineering professionals to join us. There will be no membership fee in according with our objective to facilitate the exchange of information and ideas freely

There are three types of memberships: BECA Member, BECA Senior Member and BECA Fellow.

BECA Member

Professional Engineers, postgraduate students can join BECA as BECA Members. BECA Members.

Experienced professional engineers at the managerial level, professors and lecturers, and research scientists are welcome to join BECA as BECA Members first. Then, from time to time, our BECG board members make recommendation for inviting our qualified BECA Members to become the BECA Senior Members.

BECA Senior Member

The grade of BECA Senior Member (Senior Member, BECA) is conferred by invitation of the BECG board. For transferring to the grade of BECA Senior Member, it requires solid experience reflecting the maturity in the engineering domain. Usually, our BECA Senior Members are engineers at the managerial level, professors and lecturers, and research scientists.

BECA Fellow Member

The grade of BECA Fellow (Fellow Member, BECA) is conferred on professional engineers of distinction and outstanding qualifications, and who has made extraordinary contributions in the building engineering field.
